Duplicate calendars in Outlook 2010 after migration from Outlook 2003 using USMT 4.1

Hi

We have setup where we migrate computers from Windows XP and Outlook 2003 to Windows 7 and Outlook 2010 using USMT 4.1 and task sequence and SCCM.

We are currently experiencing that some users are having calendars in Outlook 2010 duplicated after the migration has been performed. The duplicated calendar cannot be deleted. The name of the calendar varies from case to case.

Has anyone experienced the same issues, and know how to resolve it?

Best regards,

M

Hi

Thank you for using Microsoft Office for IT Professionals Forums.

If the calendar from personal folder .PST file follow these methods troubleshoot

1.       Turn on or off Cached Exchange Mode, Click Here

2.       Disable .PST file, and the re-add again.

3.       Create a new profile

4.       If the problem still did not resolve, you can refer to this KB article:

“Outlook: Troubleshooting guide for missing, duplicated or unsynchronized calendar items”

 http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2222377

If the calendar from Exchange Server, you can logon mailbox via OWA, if there has duplicated calendar, the problem might be caused by Exchange Server.

Please take your time to try the suggestions and let me know the results at your earliest convenience. If anything is unclear or if there is anything I can do for you, please feel free to let me know.

Best regards

William Zhou

Hi William.

I am the one troubleshooting this issue for X-Ray Cat.

What we have concluded is this:

There is no similarities in programs(itunes, pcsuite etc.), 3rd party devices(BB, HTC, Nokia, SonyE) and no regional settings as well.

It seems that this happens when they start Outlook first time, since Tasks, Contacts, Jounal and Notes are also duplicated. We thought at first this might occur when users had accepted their first meeting request.

These changes are replicated to Exchange, so we cannot fix this by New profile, reinstall Office/PC, nor will any switches help.

The items in the calendar(and the other folders) simply start from day1 and goes forward. The old calendar is not updated(only if existing meetings receive updates) and other users and 3rd party devices, see only the "new" calendar.

When dragging meetings from old calendar to new(or the other way), they will appear as "Copy: <meetingname>" and all rights are lost, ie Organizer cannot see tracking and participant will not get updates.

So it seem that a link between these std folders is somehow lost and therefore Outlook creates new ones instead.

The Old folders cannot be deleted, so they must be default on the Exchange level. The new ones can be edited fully.

Suspicions:

Can this be caused by Exchange not being online/responding at that given moment the Profile is created?
Will it help users to "Move" the Calendar items in order not to loose the rights?
Maybe Userpolicies are not enforced. Meaning when they try to log on to exhange they will be prompted for password?

To do next:

We will look through the scanstate and userstate logs monday to see if USMT report anything(i suspect it will not).
We will create a restore of 1 usermailbox and link it to a testuser to see if it can be recreated.

If you have any tips or ideas, they will be much appreciated!

BR
Thomas

Any ideas on what these errors mean?

Have you checked to see if there is a duplicate outlook ost file associated with Outlook 2010? That ended up being our problem. This issue was caused by the setting Under Office Customization Tool--->Outlook--->Add Accounts--->Customize additional Outlook profile and account information. This was changed to Outlook--->Add Accounts--->Do not customize Outlook profile and account information

Thanks. I will check that out.

Not sure if that was how it was deployed in my environment, but I am seeing the same things on some users Oulook 2010 Calendars.  Items prior to the upgrade are in a different calendar, items after are in the "current calendar".  Has anyone had any luck backing up (Export) calendar items form the old calendar to the new?  When I tried to drag and drop items into the new calendar the user does not have full permissions and cannot update the users on the invite list.

Hi,

I have the same issues as Xray Cat for one user whoes Calendar, Contacts, Notes, Jounals, Suggested Contacts and RSS Feeds were all doubled. According to the user, he is trying to modify an old profile to enable ost on Win 7 / Office 2012 laptop. This user also has other Apple computers, hand helds and Windows VMs. Not sure any of those related to the issue.

Since all newly created Calendar etc... can not be deleted, my solution is to pst all old folders, rename them, move them to Deleted Items, then import all entries back. That seems to work, except Canlendar Items will not get updates due to the fact that they were copied from pst.

Not sure what and why caused the problems. Can you point me to the right direction?

if you are using cache mode on Outlook client, change it to online mode and restart Outlook.

Using online mode access all the calendar, those duplicate will pop up an error and after dismissing the error the duplicate calendar will be automatically removed leaving only the original copies.

Change back to Cache mode and end Outlook, before relaunching Outlook, rename the OST so it will create a new copy.

It worked for me. Hope that helps

Thanks
