Duplicate "Microsoft Exchange System Objects" in Active Directory
I ran the Exchange BPA over all my Exchange 2007 servers and it is reporting that "multiple Exchange domain containers exist". It is reporting that there are 2 "Microsoft Exchange System Objects" under the root of the Domain in ADUC and also under an OU that
contains several domain users and computers. The one under the root of the domain was created and last modified on 24/8/2009 and contains:
Exchange Install Domain Servers (with no members)
SystemMailbox{0235D659-FCD3-4002-AC80-A5F811624B2A}
SystemMailbox{05205D4B-2514-4B0D-AE08-5F43983E5015}
plus there are another 5 listed
The one listed under the OU was created on 10/12/2007 and last modified on 3/8/2009 and contains:
Exchange Install Domain Servers (containing all my Exchange servers)
SystemMailbox{0235D659-FCD3-4002-AC80-A5F811624B2A}
SystemMailbox{04725720-7FA3-4D5D-B733-99741037BD20}
plus 12 others
There is only 1 System Mailbox that is duplicated in both "Microsoft Exchange System Objects". All others are different.
Do I do the following?
Keep the system folder that was created first (which is the one under the OU)
Move the SystemMailbox{...} entries that are missing from Microsoft Exchange System Objects under the root domain to the one under the OU
Delete Microsoft Exchange System Objects" under the root Move Microsoft Exchange System Objects" from the OU to under the root
Any help would be much appreciated. :)

Sounds like someone removed Exchange Server previously but not the correct way. Does BPA offer a solution? Usually it will provide an solution or link for any issues it finds. I would be very cautious about deleting AD objects at this
point. If BPA does not provide a solution, then I would take a System State Backup before performing any ADSI Edit operations.MVP Exchange Server

The possible cause is that MESO (Microsoft Exchange System Objects) container we have under OU was created originally under the domain and was being
moved under OU, and then a DomainPrep was run which created a new MESO container under the Domain
Please move the objects from container under OU into the container under domain, and then remove the duplicated container under OU
Please backup AD as John suggested

Are you saying the active container is the one located under the root of the domain? BPA doesnt state which one is the active one. It just says to locate the incorrect entry and delete it after moving the contents into the other container. If
the MESO container under the OU is the one that was created originally then why would we get rid of this one and not the other one? Or doesnt it matter as long as there is one MESO container under the root domain will all the contents out of the
other one moved into it?
