Dummy Exchange Account for VOIP
What is Microsoft's best practice for creating accounts that will only be used for VOIP mailboxes? For example, I need an account that will be used for someone who will never login to our network, but needs a voicemail box. Access to voicemail items will be via the voip phone only.Exchange 2007Thanks,Chris

Can't deploy a new mailbox server. This user will never login to our domain. He only needs a desk phone (voip) with a voicemail box. We are using Cisco VOIP. He will access messages via the phone, but an account needs to be created for the VOIP mailbox.In the past I have created these accounts as resource mailboxes. We have many automated voicemail boxes for leaving messages only (not manned by a live person). Just wondering if resource account is the way to go.

Well, if a new server is not available in a new domain then a resoure account would work, which is what you're doing today. Basically this creates a user account in AD and then disables the account.The other idea would be to create a user mailbox and then disable the user in AD thus leaving the mailbox open.I'd recommend what your familar with.
