Downloading multiple files at once from Sharepoint

Dear All,

I would like some assistance with downloading multiple files from a Sharepoint site at one time.

Environment:

My local machine is running Windows 7 with Office 2010.  I am not sure what version of Sharepoint the server is running.

Task:

I am given a list of 10 to 150 files (.PDF Drawings) to download from a sharepoint server.

Current Method:

I go to the file folder(accessed via IE) on the share point site.  Under 'Activities' I export to Excel a list of all the files in that folder (about 35,000 records).  The first column of this spreadsheet is a hyperlink to the file on the sharepoint.  Using Control-F I find one record at a time.  I click the hyperlink with opens that specific file in IE.  I then have to save that file to a folder.  I repeat this 10-150 times to have a folder with only the specific drawings I need.

Question:

Is there a way to download my list of multiple files all in one go?

Thank you,

Jim

Hi,

In the situation, check the following suggestion:

In the SharePoint website, go to the library which stores the files you wish to extract. Click the Library option at the top of the page. Among the many confusing buttons is one that says "Open with Explorer." Click this to open the library in Windows [File] Explorer. From here you can select multiple files and drag&drop or copy&paste into a folder on your local machine!

Refer the following link where the same issue is discussed:
http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/sharepointgeneral/thread/5a599238-cc2e-47ab-9a9f-347abd3fc5fd/

I would suggest you open a new thread on the SharePoint Forums for further support.

Sincerely
Rex Zhang

Hi Michael,

The link gives only the way to add the app in cloud portal. No download option.

We need WSP package to deploy in our SharePoint 2010 farm premises. Please provide a link to download.

Venkat

I too need to export/download multiple files attached to a item/file in a SharePoint List.. I cannot find a way to do more than one at a time, I have over 230 employees some with 100's of documents attached to their file that I am needing to export/download preferably all at once so I can then save them to the new system we are operating with.  I am currently only able to download one file at a time and it is quite tedious and time consuming.  Any ideas on how to do this would be great.  We are using SP 2008 via the web.

Thank you,
Kathy

Hi All,

I am looking for a solution from where I can download multiple excel files from sharepoint automatically.

E.g. Right now there are multiple folders in the sharepoint and there are multiple excel files in each folder. Want to download the latest excel file from the SharePoint.

For me, the "Open with Explorer" button is grayed out. When I hover over it the text says "This control is currently disabled. You might not have the right permission level to use this, you might need to select an object or item, or the control might not work in this context." I've tried selecting items but nothing changes the state.

Is there another way to download multiple items other than the Open with Explorer button?

Thanks,

Gary

Hi Gary,

Try using Internet Explorer. Using Chrome or other browsers will disable the control.

We have used SharePoint Services for years and each time someone needs files moved or downloaded I cringe.  I was just given a directive to download about 200 files/folders from the server and as a last resort I searched and found this post.  Rex, you are the total best of the best!  This worked EXACTLY like you said and I had everything downloaded in seconds.  I have no idea if this works for SharePoint Servers but it works beautifully on SharePoint Services.  Thanks again and you are a lifesaver!
