Domain Controller Demotion
I have installed a new Domain Controller and have made this a global Catologue and have moved all FMSO Roles to this server. The new server is also running all network services i.e. DNS, DHCP, WINS FIle and Print. The issue I have is that when I turn the old server off no users can see the domain during logon process. Also I have tried to run DCPROMO on the old server to remove Active Directory correctly but this says that it is the last Domain Controller in the forest as no other servers can be contacted. There are no errors in the eventlog and I can ping both server from both server via dns name. Any help on this would be great !!

are both servers on the same subnet and there is no firewalling between them? What was wrong with the old DC that made you want to decomission it at first? you could always try dcpromo /forceremoval, but i wouldn't suggest that until you can safely shut that old DC down.

Pleaase check your DNS is it configured properly and showing all local machine in your new domain or not.

This issue is now fixed. The solution was that there was no SYSVOL share on the ne dc, I have forced the creation of this and all I have now depoted the server all ok.
