Domain Change for Exchange 2010 Server

Hi Guys,

We have Single Domain forest with following Microsoft products available.

Exchange 2010, Lync 2010, Sharepoint, SC 2012 products.

We have a requirement where domain name change need to be performed. Now AFAIK domain rename is not possible after Exchange 2003 server. Hence would need to perform the migration here..

Can you please advise which of below approach will be possible

1. Create a new domain in exisiting forest and move users within domain.

2. Create a new forest with new domain and then perform an intra forest migration.

Will there be any specific cautions than needs to be taken care of. What would be implication for the same?

Samy

Hi Samy,

As you mentioned, change domain name is not available after Exchange 2003. More details about Introduction to Administering Active Directory Domain Rename, please refer to:

For your question, in theory all this is possible. The most difference of all may be one involves the forest level, the other is domain level.
I find an similar thread about Cross-Forest Migration, for your reference:

I hope this be will helpful.
