Does Windows 7 supports the Exchange Management Tools
I installed the Exchagne Management tools on the Windows 7 RTM computer (not Windows 7 server), and it seems working fine. But in the article, http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa996719.aspx, the Windows 7 OS no lists in the supported operation system. Is there any body can verify it?sesame

Technically Management Tools should be able to work on Windows 7. But there are not articles on it till now. We will have to wait and see.Vinod |CCNA|MCSE 2003 +Messaging|MCTS|ITIL V3|

I also dont have an "official" answer, but since Exchange 2007 isnt supported on Win2k8 R2, and since Win7 and R2 are the same... Mike Crowley A+, Network+, Security+, MCT, MCSE, MCTS, MCITP: Enterprise Administrator / Messaging AdministratorRead my 2 on the Psychology of a TechNet Forum Thread!

I built a Server 2008 R2 BETA vm some months ago, and installed the Exchange 2007 (SP1) management tools - I was not able to break any of my Exchange management scripts.Your mileage may varyKarl

Seems like the general consensus is that it works, but might not be supported. Mike Crowley A+, Network+, Security+, MCT, MCSE, MCTS, MCITP: Enterprise Administrator / Messaging Administrator

Were also possibly missing an important point here. To manage Exchange 2010, you dont need to install the management tools locally if you use PowerShell and the new Remote Management features associated with. See here for more:"If you want to manage Exchange Server 2010 from a workstation, youll need toinstall Microsoft .NET Framework version 3.5.1, WinRM 2.0, and Windows PowerShell2.0. As WinRM 2.0 and PowerShell 2.0 are used for remote management whether youuse the GUI or the command-line, youll need to enable remote commands on theworkstation."ref: http://download.microsoft.com/download/5/B/0/5B02A024-ACBA-4414-A178-14024C1B6237/Exchange%202010_sample_admin_pocket_consultant.pdf Mike Crowley A+, Network+, Security+, MCT, MCSE, MCTS, MCITP: Enterprise Administrator / Messaging Administrator

Sesame, you mention no EMC, does that mean maybe EMS will be supported? Is it possible to remote powershell into an Exchange 2007 box? I see 2 workarounds for this:1- Use RemoteApp2- Use the SP1 edition of the tools even though its unsupported. I have been trying to install SP1 tools on 64 bit Windows 7 without any luck. States the version is not supported and I did try changing the compatibility. I know people have been successful installing the 64 bit tools on Windows 7. Could anyone provide some detail to achieve this.

Mghobril, I have not tried to load the Exchange 2007 tools onto a Windows 7 x64 box, so I cannot attest to this working or not. My Win7 workstation use has been limited to x86. But if it doesnt work, I wonder if Microsoft has updated the internet-based checks (ExBPA.PreReqs.xml) to look for the windows 7 OS. If this IS the case, you could just remove this XML and replace it with the old one. They said they were going to do this, so maybe they finally got around to it. Microsoft has stated that it will not work as the same type of coding that would be required to allow Exchange 2007 to be installed on Server 2008 R2 would require the same coding to make EMC work on Windows 7 since the codebase for Windows 7 is similar to Server 2008 R2.MVP | MCITP: Enterprise Messaging Administrator | MCTS: OCS + Voice Specialization

Elan, thanks for your post! I'm a daily reader of your blog BTW!We're aware that its not supported, but many of us engineers want to upgrade our machiens, while still beign able to do our jobs by managing Exchange 2007. If we get the management tools onto Win7 I dont think its that big of a deal. It DOES work, as you can see in posts above.I am usually the first to discourage unsupported software use, but since its only management tools were talking about, I'm making a personal exception to this rule. :)

I was able to install the Exchange 2007 Management tools on Windows 7 x64 RTM without any issue.I have only run into the one issue when accessing the Server Configuration for CAS. I am prompted with a Microsoft Exchange Error that prevents the following commands from completing: Get-ActiveSyncVirtualDirectory, Get-OabVirtualDirectory and Get-OWAVirtualDirectory. With this I am unable to access any of the settings on the CAS Virtual directories from Windows 7.Everything else seems to be working correctly.yergg

This is because the IIS tools are not installed. And if your install worked this means it is pre SP2.

I've been able to install the tools and get summary data, but im having substantial delays getting details (mailbox properties for example). I've got a separate account for administration, so I'm utilizing the "run as" functionality. Anyone have any experience with this?
