Does Exchange archived emails keep their categories? (email categories disappearing when archived in exchange)
Wondering if Exchange archived emails can keep their categories?  We have some customers in our company that use Microsoft Exchange Archive and they tell us they don't see the category of the e-mail after it is archived.  Are these settings we can help them with?

How have you configured Exchange to archive e-mail?

It is not me that configured it.  I am asking on behalf of some customers using Exchange Archiving.  I've been reading up on the service, and I wonder if their disappearing categories when archived has something to do with Exchange's "Default Archive and Retention Policy"?  Maybe they haven't configured anything, only activated the service?

It's hard to answer such a question.

Ok, I understand.  I'm on deep water here because I've never configured or used this archiving service myself (my company does, so I probably did, but I didn't set it up).  I'm usually pretty good at finding solutions, and that's my mission now, and I ended up here.  I would really appreciate it if someone would guide me a little around this.  Maybe I have to rephrase the question...I don't know...but I try to get a clue...so,  please correct me, don't know if I've phrased it right.  In this case they are using Outlook 2010 and Exchange 2010.

The main question is:  Is it possible to keep the category of the mail that is archived in Exchange?

Or, as they asked now:  Our question is whether categories of mail in existing Exchange retained into the automatic archiving solution for Microsoft?

The answer is that it depends on how you do the archiving and the system you're using.

:)That means, if you have the right system, it is possible to keep the categories if you configure it that way? Are there systems that is not possible to configure to autoarchive with categories? Is it possible to configure Outlook 2010, and Exchange 2010, to keep their categories when autoarchiving?

As I understand it categories are part of the mail item stored in the database and if you send the message to someone else, the categories don't get sent.  If that's the case and you're doing transport journaling, then the archival process won't include the categories.  That's an example of what I'm driving at; there may be other scenarios where that information is not retained.

Ok, thank you:) The ones who configured it should be on this thread.
