Hi,
Do you mind telling us more detailed information about your request? I have a couple of questions:
1) Which file format do you want to open? Doc file or txt file?
2) Which other programs do you use? NotePad, Wordpad or other?
My understanding is that you have some files if you open them with Word, you only have read-permission. If you open them with Other program, you have full control-permission, such as edit, modify and so on.
Please provide us more information to assist you better.

George Zhao
1. It's a normal .doc
2. No, the thing is if I open a document through Word. "Open" and then browse to the file it gets Write-protected.
If I manually locate the file in the Explorer and doubleclick it does not get Write-protected.
it's seems no possible.
