Do Mail-Enabled Groups get updated by AD Groups?
Trying to figure out why are Mail-Enabled groups in Exchange 2007 are not getting updated when we make changes to these groups in Active Directory. Is there an article somewhere that will explain how we can set up groups in Exchange that automatically update when changes are made in Active Directory? Do we need to use Dynamic Distribution Groups in order for this to happen? Thanks.

It should update automatically. Are these distribution groups or email enabled security groups? How are you determining that it is not updating in Exchange? If you email the group, is it not going to new members? Are you opening the group in the EMC and looking at members? Are you looking at the group in Outlook? What about OWA? If you are not seeing it update in Outlook, it is most likely a caching issue and the OAB has not been updated. You should be able to log into OWA and see the members of the group pretty quick.Tim Harrington - Catapult Systems - http://HowDoUC.blogspot.com

TW: The particular group I'm looking at is a mail-enabled security group in Exchange, and in AD it's a Universal Security Group. I've changed the membership in AD (added new groups to the group) and when I go to the EMC and the OAB the membership is not updated. If it is a caching issue, how do we resolve this? For now we've had to update the group manually in the EMC. Zarok: We have a root domain and a sub-domain. Only one site. All of our users/computers are in the sub-domain. Your help is greatly appreciated!

So if i uderstand correctly the group isnt updated from AD Users and Computers console, but when u do the update form EMC its woring corectly. Is it only happening for this particular group, or are other groups also having the same issue? Not wanting to be critical, but mail enabling a security group, and adding more security groups (that are also mailed enables) in that group isnt realy best practice.

Hi, Which domain did you create the group? Root domain or Sub-domain? Did you check whether the membership was updated on the other domain when doing the modification? Did you check the issue in OWA or online mode for Outlook? This issue may occur if you created and modified the group on the Sub-domain, the changing is still not replicated to the other domain, then the user uses the GC of the root domain to get the OAB.
