Do I have to Migrate?
We are in process of planning a new Exchange 2007 and I need to know if it is absolutely necessary to migrate our existing Exchange 5.5 mailboxes etc... We have a small shop and don't really want to go through the expense of migrating 5.5 -> 2003 -> 2007 just to keep our emails. Can I skip the migration, install 2007 and once it's up and operational, uninstall and remove the 5.5 servers? Thanks! Gary

You certainly could. What do you plan to do with user data, just make PST files?

Use ExMerge to export your current mailboxes to PST, you can import them in the new environment easily.
