Distribution list owners
Can you set a user to be an owner of a group but not be included in the distribution group? We are using Office 365 and our IT department manages our Email groups, but don't want to get emails from every group we manage. Is it possible?

There's an option for this when creating new group. It's a checkbox named "add group owners as members" if you are using the GUI, or the CopyOwnerToMember parameter if you are using PowerShell.

Thanks for the reply Vasil, Most of our groups were created through Azure AD sync. Is there a way to modify the group after creation?

There is no actual attribute for that setting, if this is what you are asking, so it will not be synced. And it cannot be configured post creation of the DG. But if you select the checkbox/use the parameter when creating the DG, it will be fine both on-prem and in Azure AD.

Hi,

Remove-DistributionGroupMember cmdlet can remove an existing recipient from a distribution group, you may consider this cmdlet to remove owner of distribution group from membership after creation.

Thanks Lynn-Li, That worked great. It removed me from the distribution group but left me as the owner to manage the group.
