Distribution groups and Removing Exchnage from Domain?
We have a Forest with a Rood Domain, twelve child domains with Exchange 2003, and one child domain with Exchange 2007. We are planning to migrate all of the Exchange 2003 users to the Exchange 2007 system, and remove all of the Exchange 2003 servers. Two Questions: 1) What happens to the Distribution groups & Email enabled Security groups in the Exchange 2003 child domains: Will they remain functional? 2) What is the best way to migrate Distribution groups between Domains? Thanks,

Yes. Those are AD objects that aren't associated with any Exchange server -- unless you've assigned an "expansion server" to the DL and the server is one that's being removed. >2) What is the best way to migrate Distribution groups between Domains? There shouldn't be any need to do that unless you're also removing the domain. The only down-side I can see to leaving them where they are is if the DLs are managed by users through Outlook. If you do that it's very prossible that the users will use a GC in the domain of the Exchange server instead of a GC in their own domain. While this won't hanve any effect on the ability of those users to send email to the DL, they won't be able to manage the DL membership unless the user and the DL are in the same domain and the user is using a GC in the domain of the DL. --- Rich Matheisen MCSE+I, Exchange MVP --- Rich Matheisen MCSE+I, Exchange MVP
