Distribution group management
Hello all I work in Exchange 03/07 combined enviroment. Recently I experienced 2 issues 1. When changin "Managed by" for a distribution group (universal), new manager is not able to modify membership even after few days of replication. GAL has been updated and recreated for Outlook but the permissions are still not working. Is there any way to somehow update this manually in GAL, so new "manager" of distribution list will be able to modify permissions? 2. Is there by any chance a way how to assign a dsitribution group more than one manager? For example to put a Security group into "Managed by" tab or in "Security" tab to add a second person with rights to update membership? Will this multi-manager setting be accepted by Outlook? thanks for help

You have to set the permissions at the AD level. The permission the users need is the Write Membership. You will see this on the Security tab in ADUC. (Choose View, Advanced Features if you don't see the security tab). However the best option is to configure a group that can modify the group membership, then grant that group the permission, and add the user to that group. This follows best practise of Users to Groups, Permissions to Groups. Simon.Simon Butler, Exchange MVP. http://blog.sembee.co.uk , http://exbpa.com/

Hi, Is it multi-domain environment? Please understand that in multi-domain environments, the GC chosen by the client may not be in the same domain as Active Directory group objects. Therefore, user might not be able to update membership because the local GC has a read-only copy of that group.
