Display Name change - OAB concerns...
Hi All - I'm in a larger organization and I want to see if anyone in the community has had experience with this. In order to resolve some legacy issues (long story), we're looking to change the displayname attribute for all our AD objects. About 60k of these have mailboxes, and I'm wondering what the impact of this change will be on the OAB. Some details about our environment: -We are about half and half Exchange 2003/2007, however we are nearly 100% Outlook 2007. -We're using web-publishing for our OAB via autodiscover -We have the option of doing this in waves over a long period of time, however the change will be drastic enough that we'd prefer to have it over with as quickly as possible. a few questions that I wanted to pose to the community here: -Has anyone embarked on something like this? Any tips or advice? -Will our Exchange 2003 users be able to take advantage of the web published OAB (for the BITS piece) -Is there a way we can get a good estimate on what the change to the OAB will be? what impact will this have on our network utilization? -Will there be a prompt if outlook decides to throw out the old OAB and download a new one? (example: users on vacation) thanks in advance for your help! jm

Hi josef Maung, until now i havnt to do such heavy thing. But good luck. 60k mailboxes is a lot. no Outlook doesnt prompt the user in order to download a new version of the OAB. but the user is able to download a new version by request. So you are able to tell your users the changes and give them the order to download the new OAB. The configuration of the OAB is a global setting. So i think the Exchange 2003 users are not able to use the OAB Web-publishing service. So you have to moe the Mailboxes first and then reconfigure the OAB settings only to use the web-publishing service. I think it would be a good idea to migrate the mailboxes forst to the Exchange 2007 System and deinstall the Exchange 2003 system. After that i would i think about changing the displayname. If you are using yout Exchange system for such a long time with the "wrong" displayname then it doesnt matter if you change it aber the migration process took place. regards Thomas Paetzold visit my blog on: http://sus42.wordpress.com
