Hey guys,

Need to disable hyperlinks in Outlook 2010 messages.

There was a GPO that did it in Outlook 2007 and one that appears to do it in 2013 (haven't played with it yet) but the GPO's for 2010 don't seem to cover it.

I am aware that a registry hack can 'break the opening of the hyperlink but this does not suit what I need.

Also the autocorrect settings in Outlook 2010 only work for messages that are typed, not recieved.

Other than putting the message format in basic text mode, is there a way to disable Outlook from displaying these as hyperlinks on incoming messages?

Hi Dan,

If you are refering to the group policy setting:

Security | Trust Center | Enable links in e-mail messages

in Outlook 2007, then we can find it for Outlook 2010 in the following location:

Security | Trust Center | Allow hyperlinks in suspected phishing e-mail messages

Please be aware that, both of these settings will disable the hyperlinks only in "suspected phishing messages".

The plot thickens. I was told that the group policy setting for Outlook 2007 disabled the hyperlinks in all emails, not just suspected phising messages. Never trust anything without testing yourself..

So, from this I am under the impression that disabling the hyperlinks is not a possibility whilst maintaining the HTML message format?

Security | Trust Center | Enable links in e-mail messages

I was told by a colleague that this was disabling hyperlinks in ALL messages. I have since tested this and have confirmed it does not.

I have the opposite problem. Something happened during the past few days that has disabled hyperlinks throughout my Outlook 2010, including hyperlinks within emails and hyperlinks within Contacts, such as web addresses. The error messages read, "This operation has been canceled due to restrictions in effect on this computer. Please contact your system administrator." The restriction does not occur when I access Outloo via the website. (I am using the Office Professional Plus subscription and Office 365 Plan E1.)

How can I restore this functionality? I do not see any Trust Center settings that address this issue. It seems odd that all hyperlinks would be disabled if "there is no such built-in option in Outlook to disable the hyperlinks in e-mail messages."

Run regedit.exe and navigate to:

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.htm

Make sure the default value is set to "htmlfile" (no quotes)

ALWAYS use caution in the Regsitry. ;)
