Set the pop3 service to manual startup and stop the service. The server will no longer respond to pop3 requests after stopping the service. The open and now unused port on the firewall could also be closed.Michael

Sorry, I should have been more clear.By default, all mailboxes have the POP3 Service enabled. We want to configure Exchange so that when a new mailbox is created, POP3 is disabled by default. Is there a registry key or something?

A complimentary question would also be, is there a Default user mailbox template, similar to that of the windows local profile, that dictate mailbox settings on creation. You could also always do a get-mailbox | set-CASmailbox -PopEnabled $false

There's no registry hack or AD edit I'm aware of, but having the service disabled effectively does the same thing if your end goal is for POP3 not to be used at all. Each mailbox will still have the POP3 attribute enabled, but unable to ever work unless the service is turned back on. One alternative would be to create and account template with the options you want such as POP3 protocol disabled, and use that as your default copy when creating a new account that way it doesn't have to be disabled everytime an account is created. You might also be interested in looking at the tool ADModify to make bulk changes to exchange 2003 attributes. Hope this helps.Michael

Yes, agree with Michael, if you want to disable POP3 service globally, you just need to disable the "Microsoft Exchange POP3" service in service console, or you can disable the "Default POP3 virtual server" in Protocol node. And if you want to create a new mailbox with pop3-disabled by default, you can "copy" to create the new user from exist user who is set pop3-disabled in ADUC installed on exchange server. Thanks everyone for your comments. POP3 is needed for a few accounts and therefore the service will not be turned off. I will do the following:1. Set all accounts to have the services disabled via ADModify2. Enable the service only on the applicable accounts3. Create a user "template" with the settings disabled for future account creationsBest regards,Scott
