Disable Name resolution for specific mailbox in Exchange 2007
We are currently migrating from Exchange 2000 to Exchange 2007SP1. Our Current FAX server (RightFAX) polls a mailbox located on the Exchange 2000 server for outbound faxes to send. Faxes are sent to the mailbox in the format '/fax=12345678/<mailbox@domainname.com.au>' and faxes are successfully sent. When we migrate the mailbox to Exchange 2007SP1, we are unable to send faxes and we get 'Valid fax destination information could not be found in your mail message. The message was discarded.'It looks like Exchange 2007SP1 is resolving the name of the mailbox and stripping the fax number information from the email ? Is there a way to stop Exchange 2007SP1 from resolving the mailbox name ? Thanks in advance

Hi Have you verified that the addresses are correct after the mailbox has been moved? Jonas Andersson MCTS: Microsoft Exchange Server 2007/2010 | MCITP: EMA 2007/2010 | MCSE/MCSA Blog: http://www.testlabs.se/blog

You may want to check the RightFAX version and its support with Exchange 2007. There is no option in exchange to alter the categorization process, even if there is (a custom code), I wouldn't recommend it as it may affect the normal mail flow functionalities.

Hi, have you had a chance to check on the RightFax versions and it support?

I Agree with the others, check with RightFax support. Did you have to create any special connectors for it in 2003?

I have confirmed with RightFax that the version (v9.4 FP1, SR1) we are using supports Exchange 2007. They have said as the address is incorrect/stripped before RightFax checks the mailbox it looks like an Exchange 2007 issue. I did not have to create any special connectors when configured in Exchange 2000. In my attempt to troubleshoot the issue, I have found some articles describing how to disable the 'Resolve anonymous senders' functionality. I believe this was disabled by default in Exchange 2000/2003 and enabled by default in Exchange 2007. Would this apply to my situation ? Thanks

I think I have answered my question re 'Resolve anonymous senders', I don't think this applies, as it applies to the sender's address not the recipient’s address. Any other ideas/workarounds ?

It may, but resolving addresses from anonymous senders is usually disabled in Exchange 2007. At least it is until you trust the sender. --- Rich Matheisen MCSE+I, Exchange MVP --- Rich Matheisen MCSE+I, Exchange MVP

Have you had a chance to open up the mailbox and see how the message looks like (need to do it before rightfax picks the message, stop the rightfax service?), if yes, do you see the address stripped?

Yes I have, when I check the mailbox located on the Exchange 2000 server, the Fax number information is there, however when I check the mailbox located on the Exchange 2007 server, the fax number information has been removed and only shows the resolved mailbox name. I have screen shots to confirm the above, just not sure how to post.

Ag02, If thats the case and RightFax cant process the message then I guess you are not the only one who may have the problem. It requires in-depth troubleshooting of 2 different products, could I ask you to consider our paid support please.
