Disable 'Contact' in EMC
I notice within the Exchange Management Console it's possible to Disable a mail-enabled Contact. This will apparently remove Exchange information from the Contact. If I have an external contact in my AD with an email address partner@microsoft.com, then if I search the EMC for Contacts with that address, I can find the object. If I 'disable' the Contact within the EMC, this removes Exchange information from the Contact, and I can't see it anymore. Does anyone know where I can find it now? Can it only be found within AD? And if I wanted to re-enable the Contact, how would I do this? Running Exchange 2007 SP2.

Disabling the contact doesn't remove the exchange related fields, it just hides them from the GAL and for usage by the system. Same as when you disable an AD user, it doesn't remove the user, it just blocks all access to and from them. You can open the Exchange Shell and run the following command: get-contact -identity partner@microsoft.com | fl that will give you information about the contact if it exists AND the contact is disabled . If you want to see if the contact is mail enabled contracts run the command: get-mailcontact - identity partner@microsoft.com you can disable the contact by running disable-mailcontact -identity partner@microsoft.com Reference: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb124552(EXCHG.80).aspx Thanks, Jorge R. >>Does anyone know where I can find it now? Can it only be found within AD? Disabling a mail contact (or any Exchange object) will remove the email capability of that object. The get-contact cmdlet queries against AD. So, that means the disabled mail contact can be viewed only in AD. >>And if I wanted to re-enable the Contact, how would I do this? To mail enable the contact again, you can use EMC and click on New MailContact->Existing Contact and select the object from AD or you may use the management shell command Enable-MailContact -Identity TedBremer -ExternalEmailAddress TedBremer@Contoso.com Reference: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb124237(EXCHG.80).aspx

Hi Pancamo, Agree with Rajitha, you can only view the disabled contact in AD if the contact has been disabled. And if you would like to connect with the contact, both EMC and EMS can help you. for detailed, please see the link provided by Rajitha.
