Deply first 2010 UM server into mixed 2010-2007-2003 org
Hi everyone - hopefully a quick question: We're very close to rolling out or first 2010 CAS server, which all the documentation says should be the first role for 2010 into a pre-existing org. Naturally, shortly thereafer, we'll want the other roles to follow so we can benefit from all the new features. My question is about the UM server role - we have 2007 UM; it works well. But - we had decided long ago that all our HT servers were to be combined HubTransport and Mailbox servers - so you see my issue - it's recommended that the UM role be installed BETWEEN HT & MBox roles. If all our MBox servers are to have HubTransport as well, should we install the Hub Transport part first, then introduce the new hardware with the UM role, then go back and install the Mailbox role on the Transport machines? or Can we get the HubTransport/Mailbox servers up - configure the Hub portion only, no mailboxes as yet - then install the UM role, then add mailboxes to the Mailbox server?THanks for your time.

You should be fine simply bringing up the 2010 MBX/HT roles server first. Then bring up the UM role before moving any mailboxes to the 2010 servers.Dont forget to point the IP/PBX gateway at the 2010 UM server as well and adding the new server to the dial plan:http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd335126(EXCHG.140).aspxUpgrading from Exchange 2007 Unified Messaging
