Deploying an Exchange Server 2010 on Windows 2008 SP2
Hi, I'm pretty new to Exchange 2010, and have recently tried to deploy Exchange 2010 on Windows 2008 SP2 server. I do not have any current Active Directory server, and this will be the first one in the network. I've successfully completed the initial installation of the pre-requisite software as well as the Exchange 2010 server. After installation, I added a new mailbox account and managed to login to it via OWA successfully. However when I tried to configure my Outlook 2007 to access the Exchange server, I get this error message "Cannot open your default e-mail folders. You must connect to Microsoft Exchange with the current profile before you can synchronize your folders with your offline folder file." . After that my Outlook quits. Am I missing some steps in the configuration? How do I connect my Outlook to the Exchange 2010 server? Thanks.

Hi, Sounds like you are trying to modify an existing Outlook profile to use on the new server. Try to create a new profile. Leif

Hi Leif, Thanks for your reply. Actually I did create a new profile and added the Exchange server account. It was able to detect the Exchange account, but when I launched the Outlook that error appeared. When I launched Outlook, I get this Microsoft Exchange dialog box which has two fields "Microsoft Exchange server" and "Mailbox" in it. Both of these fields were already populated with the correct details and were underlined. I clicked on OK and shortly after I get the same prompt again. After clicking OK a second time, I get a different error message now: "Cannot open your default e-mail folders. The file C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Outlook\outlook8.ost cannot be accessed. You must connect to Microsoft Exchange at least once before you can use your offline folder file." Any suggestions on how to resolve this issue? Thanks.

Try to rename or delete the ost file and try again Give your profile another name if that doesn't work Jonas Andersson MCTS: Microsoft Exchange Server 2007/2010 | MCITP: EMA 2007/2010 | MCSE/MCSA Blog: http://www.testlabs.se/blog

Hi Jonas and Leif, Thanks for your responses. I've managed to find a workaround using Outlook Anywhere. After turning that on, I'm able to login now.
