Deploying Microsoft Exchange on to Windows Server 2003
I was wondering if it is possible to set up Microsoft Exchange 2000on a windows 2003 server, on to one box? Is this possible? I have heard this isn't but can not find any evidence to support it. I have heard youshouldn't put exchange on tothe same box as the domain controller and thereforerequire a second box?Does anyone have any information please? Thanks

However, unless you are running SBS, in production it's recommeded to run these services on seperate servers due to performance and interdependancies. Erik

Hi Erik, Thanks for your reply. I was actually wanting to run Exchange 2000 on a windows 2003 server box. I have heard this is not recomended on one box as exchange should not put be on the same box as domain controller. Do you know anything further about this? ThanksJ

You can't run Exchnange 2000 on a Windows 2003 box (only Exchange 2003 or 2007) And yes it is not recommended to run Exchange on ad Domain Controller because it will only use that DC http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa997407.aspx Deli

Is there anything to back up the fact that you can not run exchange 2000 ona 2003 box? Why is this? Can you not use two boxes to run exchange 2000 on windows server 2003? Thanks J

It is just not supported... Microsoft has put a lot of effort into Windows 2003 to secure the operating system and Exchange 2003 was released just a little bit later and was offcourse heavily tested with Windows 2003 Microsoft didn't see any benifit to retrofit security changes into Exchange 2000 so that it could work on Windows 2003 So they basically said => You need to upgrade You can however install Exchange 2000 in a Windows 2003 Active Directory But only on a Windows 2000 server Deli
