Deploy SCR for CCR cluster using only one server for DR?
Our Exchange 2007 Mailbox Servers are running on a Windows 2003/Exchange 2007 CCR cluster. I need to implement DR in another data center. The data center is connected with dark fiber to the prod data center, therefore they are part of the same AD site. Can you deploy a standalone SCR server to recover the CMS? The only docs I have seen refer to recovering a CCR server with two SCR servers running the passive role. Any details would be appreciated.

The SCR target does not have to be a clustered node. Mike Crowley A+, Network+, Security+, MCT, MCSE, MCTS, MCITP: Enterprise Administrator / Messaging Administrator Do you still have Exchange 2000? Looking to upgrade to Exchange 2010? Read how.

Thanks, Mike. The setup worked fine in a lab environment, so it seemed that might be the case. Do you know if you would use the /recoverCMS for move to the SCR server (in a DR scenario where the CCR cluster is unavailable) for the failover or failback?

SCR allows you to operate while the primary location is busted (make sure you also have HT/CAS in the remote site). Once the main site is back online you can resume operations there after you get everything up to date.If the server actually became vaporized or otherwise gone forever, then use /recovercms. But most of the time the primary data center can be restord and /recovercms wouldn't be necessary.
