Deommissioning First Exchange 2003 Server & Outlook XP
Hi, I'm at a position whereby I can start migrating mailboxes to my new Exchange 2003 Server (Introduced because of flaky hardware on first server) That should go OK, but what I need answering is how the Outlook XP clients will deal with the server change. Will they automatically update their config to point to new server once mailobox is moved, and then once the old server is decommissioned will they continue to perform without any manual interaction? How about Outlook 2003? Thanks

Hi, The Outlook clients should automatically reconfigure itself to use the new server when Outlook "discovers" that the mailbox has been moved. Leave the old server in place for a time to let as many as possible Outlook clients find out that the mailbox has been moved. Leif

When a mailbox is moved to another server and attributes are updated in AD, outlook will try to connect it by contact the old exchange server on next launch, the exchange server/AD will redirect the outlook request to new server if the “Information Store” service is online on the original server, and after that outlook will update the profile based on the new server settings If anything goes wrong, you can still use ProfUpdate tool for profile redirection James Luo TechNet Subscriber Support in forum If you have any feedback on our support, please contact tngfb@microsoft.com Please remember to click Mark as Answer on the post that helps you, and to click Unmark as Answer if a marked post does not actually answer your question.
