Demoting a domain controller that hosts Exchange Server 2003
Hi all; In my network I have two domain controllers that Exchange server 2003 is installed on one of these Domain Controllers that is Additional Domain Controller. Now I want to demote the domain controller that hosts Exchange Server (the Additional Domain Controller). Can I do this? By doing this action, does it effect Exchange Server functionality? Thanks

Now I want to demote the domain controller that hosts Exchange Server (the Additional Domain Controller). Can I do this? By doing this action, does it effect Exchange Server functionality? Thanks I think it is possible but not recommended by MS. This is an excerpt from: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/822179/en-us For example, if you install Exchange Server 2003 on a member server, do not use the Dcpromo tool to promote the server to a domain controller. Or, if you install Exchange Server 2003 on a domain controller, do not use the Dcpromo tool to demote the server to a member server. Changing the role of a server after you install Exchange Server 2003 may result in loss of some Exchange functionality and is not supported. Your Exchange will be in a bad way. Do not do this. "Laeeq Qazi" wrote in message news:c0a6df3d-aec7-429e-9884-925723301499... That is not supported and will probably break Exchange. If you have already demoted the DC and broken your Exchange server, anecdotally you can fix it by promoting it back to the way it was. To move Exchange off a domain controller, you build a new member server for Exchange and move everything to it. -- Ed Crowley MVP "There are seldom good technological solutions to behavioral problems." .
