Demoting DC that has Exchange 2007
Hello, Here is the situation... we currently have 2 Exchange 2007 servers, 1 is the mailbox server and 1 is the hub and transport server. Unfortunately when Exchange 2007 was installed, it was installed on a Domain Controller. The question I have is... what will happen to Exchange if I demote it from being a DC. The server is Windows 2008 and is running Exchange 2007 as a hub and transport server only, the server that stores the mailbox is not a DC so I am not concerned about this one. If anyone has any documentation on this or has done this before, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Gavin...

It is not supported to demote or promote a server running Exchange, and doing so will most likely break Exchange. The only supported method is to remove Exchange Server, demote, then reinstall Exchange Server if you still want it on the server. Hi, To demote DC which has Exchange installed is not supported. Please try to introduce a new transport/CAS server and then transfer the configuration to the new one, including MX, connector, etc. Note: Please shut down the old Transport/CAS server first. After you ensure that the Exchange can run normally, email flowing is normal and then uninstall it. Regards, Xiu
