Demoted Exchange 2003 and 2007 servers from DC roles and now new clients cannot connect
Hi, We have two exchange servers, one 2003 and one 2007. We have implemented a new DC and demoted the two exchange servers which were previously DCs. Now if I try to configure a new Outlook client I get to the stage "Check Name" and get a prompt for some credentials, then an error; "outlook cannot log on. verify you are connected to the network and are using the proper serverand mailbox name. The connection to microsoft exchange is unavaliable. outlook must be online or connected to complete this action" then; "The name cannot be resolved. The action cannot be completed." The users credentials do not work, and neither do Domain Admin credentials, or Local Administrator credentials. Can anyone help? At the moment I can see the only solution is to promoted these both back to DCs. DNS is functioning fine, I can resolve and ping the server, I can telnet onto it also.

Sounds like: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/927612 You are repeatedly prompted to enter your credentials when you try to connect to an Exchange mailbox by using Outlook 2007

It is not supported to promote or demote an Exchange server. You should promote them back to being DCs and if you want Exchange on a member server, build a new server and move all the mailboxes, etc. to it. -- Ed Crowley MVP "There are seldom good technological solutions to behavioral problems." . Hi Agree with ED. If you have dc and exchange on the same box, you'd better to move the exchange server firstly and then demote the dc. Regards! gavin
