What version of Exchange do you have? Try enabling protocol logging to get more details on the SMTP transaction (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb124531%28EXCHG.80%29.aspx). Our the delays always to the same external domain or multiple? Is your servers IP on any blacklists where other servers maybe blocking or throttling you? Have you tried doing a couple manual telnet sessions to the remote servers? DJ Grijalva | MCITP: EMA 2007/2010 | www.persistentcerebro.com

Its been a standard recommendation for years to disable that feature. I Would. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/320027 Cannot send or receive e-mail messages behind a Cisco PIX or Cisco ASA firewall

Hi imanda, For this issue, I suggest you follow these steps to troubleshoot the problem: 1.Do an outbound email test on this site: https://www.testexchangeconnectivity.com/ . 2. Since this issue occurred intermittently, please enable send connector logging to help you find the problem. Configure Protocol Logging http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb124531.aspx 3. Upgrade Event log level and check the Event log: Set-EventLogLevel -Identity " MSExchangeTransport\TransportService" -Level High Set-EventLogLevel -Identity " MSExchangeTransport\Routing" -Level High Set-EventLogLevel -Identity " MSExchangeTransport\SmtpSend " -Level High Set-EventLogLevel -Identity " MSExchangeTransport\RemoteDelivery" -Level High Set-EventLogLevel -Identity " MSExchangeTransport\Components" -Level High Thanks, Evan

I noticed that this problem happens only when send from inside the company wherase from outlook or webmail .. but when we send a message from outside the company everything OK. for this reason I think there is no problem via firwall. And the send and recive is working all but sometime some I have the delayed messag. same sender same receiver sometimes is working and other time NOT this thing is very strange !!!!!! any idea ????
