Delivery has failed to these recipients or distribution lists. Tries to send to an old employee.
(I know this has been asked lots of times but I cant find an answer in what I have read) Hi, I have been asked to look and try to solve this problem. I haven’t been in IT long so I’m no expert and may be missing something obvious here. When a meeting request is made by at least 4 members of staff (All management) they get a failed delivery email stating the following. Delivery has failed to these recipients or distribution lists: Joanne Bates The recipient's e-mail address was not found in the recipient's e-mail system. Microsoft Exchange will not try to redeliver this message for you. Please check the e-mail address and try resending this message, or provide the following diagnostic text to your system administrator. Sent by Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 This is an old employee who’s active directory and mailbox entry has been deleted. This does not happen when I send a meeting request. I have searched everywhere for her name in a forward / access to mail box type scenario on the server to no avail. I have considered that it could be related to delegate permissions, but have checked on one users PC for reference to her name but its not there. There is a delegate permission giving to an account we have called reception. I logged on to this account from my PC and there are no delegate permissions and I’m not sure on what PC they would have been set up on. What else can I check? I can attached the Diagnostic information for administrators if required. Thanks Laura

Its a delegate. It always is. You need to check each user who got the email to see if that user had been delegated the permission. If you don't see them listed then there is a possibility that there is a stuck delegate which will need to be removed from the server. If you aren't in IT then you will need to get someone to do that for you. Simon.Simon Butler, Exchange MVP Blog | Exchange Resources | In the UK? Hire Me.

Thanks for your reply. Sorry I meant I havent been in IT long, ive changed it now. Where do I go to check on the server for a stuck delegate? I will check all of the managements outlook first though. Can I log on from my computer or do I have to be on their computers to check the delegates in outlook? Laura

You will only be able to check if you can connect to the mailbox and the mailbox must be the default mailbox in the Outlook profile. It is usually quickest to visit the user. Otherwise it is an adsiedit.msc hack. You will need to look at the user account for each user you suspect and look for the msexchdelegate (I think that is the value - it has the word delegate it in it and I haven't got access to a system to check at the moment). In your scenario, because Joanne Bates has been deleted, so you can’t access his mailbox. You need to log on Outlook with each recipient account (You mentioned the 4 members). I assume you are using Outlook 2003 or Outlook 2007. Click “Tools”àOptionsàDelegates See if Joanne Bates be in any member’s delegate list. More information: Members of your organization may receive a non-delivery report if your delegate’s mailbox object is removed from Active Directory before you can remove the delegate in Outlook 2003 Please remember to click Mark as Answer on the post that helps you, and to click Unmark as Answer if a marked post does not actually answer your question.
