Deleting and recreating Mailbox Store
Hi We have three domains within our forest - emea.kam.com. apac.kam.com, usa.kam.com. Forest root is kam.com Each domain has multiple AD sites. In general, they have 30 mins replication time between them. We're running AD 2003/2008 DC's and Exchange 2007 SP2 (SCC). All London SCC SG's have an SCR target in Leeds. Recently, we had some people transfer to another site and their mailboxes were moved. They were originally on the same Mailbox Store in London. I'm planning on deleting their store (londonIS2) and then recreating it so that we can host new mailboxes on there. The reason for deleting the store and recreating is to claim back a lot of white space we have on there. It's fairly straightforward to delete the store and create a new one using the Exchange Management Console, but I had some questions around best practice I was hoping an Exchange guru could help me out with! 1. We have one mailbox store per SG on all our servers. When I delete LondonIS2 store, should I also delete the SG? Or does this not make much of a difference? I was just thinking of creating a new slate really. 2. As I mentioned, I've moved all the user mailboxes from LondonIS2...but there are still System Mailboxes on there..can I still go ahead and delete the Store? If not, where do I move these to? 3. I will actually be dismounting LondonIS2 for a few days, then deleting it. Once it's deleted, I want to create a new one straight away. Do I need to bear in mind AD replication across the org for this? That is, should I delete, wait say 40 mins, then create a new one in it's place, or can I delete and create a new one (with the same name) immediately? Does it make a difference whether I'm deleting the SG as well. 4. How does this all work with the SCR target for LondonIS2? When I delete IS2, will the SCR target database also become deleted? This part confuses me somewhat. Do I need to delete the target SG on the SCR manually? And, again, what difference does it make whether I delete the SG IS2 belongs to or not. Anything else I should be concerned about or bear in mind?

Hi, 1, There is no too much difference to create a new database. You can just delete the original store and create a new within that SG. Please remember to delete the transaction files after delete the database. 2, For the SystemMailbox{GUID}, every database has the SystemMailbox respectively. You don't need to do anything for that object, just delete the Store. 3, From my opinion, you have to keep the replication to be finished. To speed up this process, please make the AD replication manually. 4, You have to also delete the database on the remote SCR. Thanks AllenAllen Song

Thanks Allen. > 4, You have to also delete the database on the remote SCR. Should I delete the DB and transaction log files on the SCR manually, or just run the command to reseed the SCR's DB/logs?
