Defragging a hard drive which contains the priv1.edb
I want to defrag the hard drive which contains the priv1.edb Will that mess up the exchange database? I have stopped the exchange system manager prior to doing this. I just want to know if it is safe to do it

Hi Rock, You can do the defragmentation of drive and it should not mess up Exchange databases. For your information that Windows drive defragment dont defrag the exchange database internally and Eseutil /d is the perfect way to defrag the database to reduce the size depending on white space available in it. I wouldn't recommend you to perform a file-level defrag of the drive holding the Exchange ESE databases, and quite franktly this shouldn't be needed if only Exchange databases exists on the drive. Also see MS's stance on this: http://msexchangeteam.com/archive/2004/10/25/247342.aspx
