Default login domain name in Active Directory
When supporting multiple email domains (and websites), you can add the other domain names to the default login domain name on the General Page in AD so that users can login with their domain name rather than the server default domain name (there is a drop-down in AD that should be populated with all the supported domain names so you can choose). How do you do this? Thanks! Tony at DSE Consulting, Inc.

Hi Tony, I am not sure that whether your post is related to Exchange 2003 or 2007 server scope? If yes, Probably, You need clarify your question more clearly in the post. Where you mean about General Page in AD? Where to login to show a dropdown list? PS: Do your mean how to add an Proxy address with the recipient policy in the Exchange 2003 Server? In Exchange 2007 server, we need create an accepted domain so that we can choose it in the dropdown list for creating Email address policy successfully. Jason

Jason (and everyone else - Greetings!!), Thanks for your reply - you are correct - there is not enough info here. First, we are winserver 2003 standard and Exchange 2003 with all sp's. The Active Directory (AD) page I'm talking about in in Active Directory Users and Computers, and the page is the Account page, not the General page. My apologies! At the top of the Account page, on the left is the user windowslogin name - to the right is a drop-down that has a list of available domain names to associate the login name with. Normally, there is just the server default domain name and nothing else - I want to populate the drop-down with a list of the available email domains on the server so each user can be associated with their email domain when they login to exchange pop and smtpto retreive email. I have already set the recipient policy correctly - all users with Exchange services enabled have a full set of all the possible email address for each domain (thanks to recipient policies). They work fine, but they all default to the server default domain name, since the email domain names are not listed, and user must log into email with SERVER\loginname where SERVER is the default server name, not the correct email domain for that user. This also means we cannot define two users with the same email user name, because only one domain name is available (I use different login names, and correct the email name so they are the same, with different email domains (i.e. - tonyl@myserver.com and tonyl@anotherserver.com with SERVER\tonyla and SERVER\tonylb as the respective windows login name). I think this should help us zero in on the issue - please ask more questions if I'm still not clear! Thanks!!! Tony

Hi tony, In my understanding, your situation was probably in a simple domain(such as myserver.com). You added another email address for tony such as tonyl@anotherserver.com by the recipient policy, currently, you cannot choose the suffix of User logon name in the dropdown list as the @anotherserver in the account page(ADUC). You want to user such as tony can login mailbox from both tonyl@myserver.com and tonyl@anotherserver.com. If I have any misunderstanding, please feel free to correct me. According to my test in a single domain(lab.com) forest, the result is the same as yours. the suffix (such as test.com ) is not displayed in the dropdown list of the account page. So whether you have a single domain forest or multiple domains forest? Furthermore, In my test, I also find that we cannot login with XX@test.com via OWA by UPN(not Domain\username) after enabling UPN In case you are interested about UPN setting, here is a KB article about how to set up OWA for UPN logon Names. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/267906/en-us

Jason, I think we're getting closer - here is some of the text from document http://support.microsoft.com/kb/243280/: Your User Logon Name This is the User Principal Name (UPN) to log on to a Windows 2000 domain. The UPN is comprised of a logon name and the UPN suffix that must be appended to the name (the text following the @ symbol). The UPN must be unique within the forest.By default, the user has a UPN suffix of "@domain_name". If multiple UPN suffixes are available, you can choose the desired UPN suffix from the list of UPN suffixes. The UPN suffixes should be displayed in the Account page in the drop-down so you can select the default login UPN suffix. I have one windows domain and forest, but several email domains in Exchange (and websites to go with them in IIS). The OWA UPN fix is interesting - I'll apply it and test. This won't affect the drop-down issue, however. Hopefully this will help us both zero in tighter on the fix - not quite there yet. Thanks!! Tony DSE

To set add UPN Suffix follow below steps. Admin Tools -> Open Active Directory Domain & Trust -> Expand it -> Right Click on Active Directory Domain & Trust & click Properties -> In the text box of Alternate UPN Suffixes add your desired domain -> Add -> Apply -> Ok. This should give you the option to choose domain name with drop down list at AD login page. Hope this fulfill your requirement....
