Default email ignored
Hi, Im trying to setup exchange 2007 server to use external email addresses. I have one Distribution group with members. Each Mailbox I have set the external address as "set to reply" which is the same as setting to default I think. So when I send an email to the DGgroup ,no emails are recieved. Also if I set my mailbox with default external email address, its ignored and sent to the internal address .

Are you trying to set forwarder from your internal mailbox to External address? If yes, you need to create a mail-enabled contact for external address and set it as a forwarding address in Mail Flow settings to forward a copy. Thanks for your reply. I was trying to do this without mail contact, just setting the user mailbox with a default external email address. Thanks..

Well, it is not possible without setting forwarder because email addresses assigned to mailboxes are aimed to delivered into mailbox but not forwarding. You can create mail enabled user in that case with an AD account but with external email address to deliver emails to their external mailbox. Refer below article for further understanding... (it is for 2003 but concept is same in 2007 also...) http://www.msexchange.org/tutorials/Understanding-Mailbox-Enabled-Mail-Enabled-Recipients.htmlAmit Tank | MVP Exchange Server | MCITP: EMA | MCSA: M | http://ExchangeShare.WordPress.com

Hi Charltonman, Would you please describe the issue more detailed? From your description I have one Distribution group with members, would you please let me know whether the members are internal mailbox enabled users or external contacts? Regarding So when I send an email to the DGgroup, No emails are recieved, would you please let me know whether any NDR message is received by the sender? In addition, I would like to explain some theory of mail flow in Exchange. Please understand that when Exchange server receives a message, it will query AD for mailbox enabled object to check whether any object has same email address as the recipient email address. If yes, the message is delivered to the mailbox of the user. Mike
