Default Folders Policy/Items retention period not respected ?

Hello,

We have Exchange Server 2007 SP3 and we've set up a default folders policy to erase all mailbox content older than 31 days.

However in three mailboxes we've sampled this policy isn't properly applied : the mailboxes had mails newer than 31 days deleted ( some 20 days, some 28 days, mine had only 14 days old mails !

Can you please explain to me why this is happening?

Hi,

According to your description, I understand that you deploy a default folders policy to erase all mailbox content older than 31 days, however, the content newer than 31 days has been deleted.
If I misunderstand your concern, please do not hesitate to let me know.

Please run below command to double check the retention policy and retention tag for problematic account, its more helpful to narrow down the issue:
Get-Mailbox Alias | Select RetentionPolicy
Get-RetentionPolicy "policy name" | FL *RetentionPolicyTagLinks*
Get-RetentionPolicyTag "tag name" | FL *Type*

Besides, please pay attention to How retention age is calculated, for your reference:

Hello

[PS] C:\Documents and Settings\Administrateur>Get-Mailbox s.elabbassi | Select RetentionPolicy

RetentionPolicy
---------------

As for the other two commands please provide me with their equivalent in Exchange 2007 SP3 as they are not recognized.

For what it's worth as info, in Message Record Management I do have Managed folder mailbox policy checked with the policy i've set. In all the users.

For the retention age I understand that the item will be deleted after 31 days from receive date. However in a problematic mailbox / like mine, I only have mails from March 17 when today is only March 31st.

Thank you.

EDIT: I used the following commands to set the policy on all users

Get-Mailbox | Set-Mailbox -ManagedFolderMailboxPolicy "TestPolicy"
Start-ManagedFolderAssistant

Hi,

Sorry for my mistake.
We use managed folder mailbox policy and assign to individual mailbox in Exchange 2007, please run below command to double check:
Get-Mailbox Alias | FL Identity, ManagedFolderMailboxPolicy
Get-ManagedFolderMailboxPolicy policy name | FL Identity,ManagedFolderLinks
Get-ManagedContentSettings -FolderName "Inbox"
Also, we can use EMC to double check the structure of MRM: Organization Configuration--->Mailbox ---> Managed Default Folders tab or Managed Custom Folders tab.
More details about it, please refer to: https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb123548(v=exchg.80).aspx

Thanks
