Data Model damaged, Cannot connect to Access 2013 from within Excel 2013

Hello,

Recently I am not able to use PowerPivot for Excel 2013 and I cannot connect to my Access 2013 database tables from within Excel 2013. Whenever I try to click on a slicer in my Excel worksheet, it gives me the following error: "Excel was unable to load a necessary component. This component might have been damaged or deleted. Reinstall the client software or data source driver software for your database."

I am using Microsoft Office Pro Plus 2013 on Windows 7, 64-bit version. I have tried reinstalling Microsoft SQL Compact Edition 2005 and reinstalling Office 2013. I have run out of ideas and am a loss what to do next ?

Can anyone help point in the right direction for a possible solution to this problem ???

Would appreciate all help.

Thank you.

You need to repair/reinstall the ODBC drive, try this:

Hi KR!

I did reinstall the ODBC driver for Access 2013 by downloading it and rebooting, but this still did not fix the problem. Now I am really at my wits end how to fix this thing up. Should I just re-install Windows 7 itself. Will this solve the problem??? This is the most drastic step and if the thing is not fixed, then would certainly mean a lot of work, running a recovery disc and having the computer restored back to factory settings and securing all the updates for the OS. This certainly would be time consuming and frustrating work.

Any more ideas without having to take this drastic step???? Please help someone.

PS- Some have suggested (in other forums threads) repairing PowerPivot. I haven't tried repairing PowerPivot for Excel 2013 and do not even know how to.

No, I can;t repair PowerPivot standalone, because it's embbed with Excel. It's strange, if you used 64bit office, there seems no 64bit odbc drive now. You'd better switch to 32bit office.

No!!! I will not propose this as answer, because it DOES NOT solve my problem yet. My problem is still there even though I switched over to 32-bit version of Office 2013 Pro Plus.

I wonder why Microsoft even made and released such a faulty software into the market without first having tested it to its full capacity with these kinds of issues. And even though people are giving their feedback on forums about Office 2013 having these and possibly other problems, it is not releasing either a potential hotfix or a patch for a bug of this kind. Its sad to see such a company not paying attention to such feedbacks.

I have created a brilliant project with PowerPivot 2013 for my organization and hate to see it not working anymore. This is one of the top reasons of frustration with using Microsoft products. I'm sorry to say that, but that's the opinion of a lot of people.

Its a pity Microsoft cares about launching shitty software into the market to gain monopoly but doesn't care about fixing issues for its treasured users.
