DST*.tmp files keep building in TEMP folder
Hello everyone, First time posting here on TechNet. We have an Exchange Server that has been giving us headaches the past few days. The temp folder under c:\WINNT\TEMP is building files (DST*.tmp) that are getting enormous and eventually running out the space on our c:\ partition. They get to about 340Mb and then starts a new one over and over again. We can't delete them (message pops up that they are currently in use), but after a reboot, deleting is not a problem. After about an hour, the whole process begins again. I've checked MSCONFIG Startup, Event Viewer, and Task Manager to see if any obviously bad processes were running, but nothing. Any help would be appreciated. Current setup: Windows Server 2000 SP4 Exchange Server 2003 Mcafee Groupshield 7.0 Mcafee Viruscan 8.0

I read and performed the actions suggested in the KB article, but still the DST*.tmp files keep building to 8 files at 340Mb each. Also, I tried disabling the On-Access Scanner and excluded the TEMP directory in Mcafee's Virus Console, but still same results. I also used FILEMON to see what process it could be logging the temp file and the process appears to be inetinfo.exe. Any ideas? Thanks!

Currently, I haven't resolved the mystery of the DST*.tmp files. But what I have tried, is to run a scheduled BATCH filethat removes them bykilling the inetinfo.exe process. The only thing I have not figured out is how to START the services back up that are affected by inetinfo.exe being killed. Here's what it looks like: @echo off start kill -f inetinfo.exe net start "Microsoft Exchange POP3" net start "Simple Mail Transport Protocol (SMTP)" net start "Microsoft Exchange IMAP4" net start "Microsoft Exchange Routing Engine" net start "IIS Admin Service" net start "FTP Publishing Service" net start "World Wide Web Publishing Service" Again, the procedure kills inetinfo.exe just fine and removes the DST*.tmp files, but fails to start the services. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!

Hi kiduher, I have a very similar problem except the file size is 86,816 KB. I applied MS kb899392 did not help at all. Reduced the Max input file size to 10 Mb , did not help at all. when I reboot the DST files can be deleted otherwise they are locked. Did you get any closer to the solution?
