DOS window, & IP address renew problem
I uninstalled an internet filter on two conputers both with XP, They both had the same symptom afterwards... "low or no connectivity" the eathernet card was uninstalled & reinstalled by windows but still would not renew ip address until I went through the cmd promps dos window (black screen) after release& renew procedureit worked. On laptop dos window only flashes, will not stay on for command. howcan I fix it? One thing I noticed, System Restore will bring the program back & bring back connectivity. Please HELP! I Don't want to reformat

are you simply typing ipconfig /renew in the run prompt? if so, first: start --> run: CMD then press ok type ipconfig /renew in this window. it wont flash and go away. reply back with what your message is. if its unable to contact a dhcp server, etc...

I have scaned for virus, & spyware, I also ran the registry cleaner. I actually have two issues, butI believe if I fix the promp window without reformating, I will be able to fix the other. Let me give you a little history on this machine. My laptop is an HP puchased about two yrs. ago. The first time this promp window issue tuned up,was when I was trying to install a downloaded program. I calledHP because it was doing some weird things and HP wanted me to go to the promp window but it would only flash (same symptom). the machine was in warranty and they told me to reformat. I triedto install that programagain after reformatting and the promp window issue happend again, so I junked that program. It has been like that ever since. Ididn't reformat the second time but I knew that gitch was there. the machine appeared otherwise to be working normal. I didn't have a reason to access that window tillnow. Remember in my first post I stated that I also had the ip address issue after removingan internet filter, the filter the Icon remains and the filter will keeps functioning until I complete the removal by restarting, after restarting is when I loose connectivity, I have tried this three times. When I run the system restore on my laptop and restart it, the ip address will go back to normal andit will communicate with the router. There is actually a change ofip address I have checked the number, problem is... it will not release butuninstalling the network adaptor, when Windows detectsthe card and reinstalls it, it will have that other ip address. On the desktop I was abe to release that ip address through the promp window, but, not on my laptop because I can't access that window. The desktpo and the laptophad the same issue after removing that filter, but the laptop has the window issue. The desktop is now working fine. Would appreciate your thoughtsI'm almost ready to reformat but the time it takes to reinstall all your programs and configure them. IF I can fix it without reformatting it will make my day. Have a good one.
