DNS Query Times Out
Hello we are setting up Exchange 2007 on Windows Server 2003 x64 and we are running into problems with our DNS records. They are all in the DNS just fine we use to be able to query them at www.network-tools.comand you could see the MX records and NS records etc. but now we can not. Itjust says DNS query timeout. We configured the send and receive connectors in exchange and we are able to send E-mail to other accounts i.e. hotmail and internal but when we try to receive from an external i.e. hotmail we receive nothing. I am pretty sure its because when we run the DNS query it does not see our host MX records which we do have setup in DNS. I even tried opening up specific ports in the firewall as well as port forwarding all ports from WAN to LAN. We are hosting the domain name on www.networksolutions.com and all they are providing is the domain name and our NS records which is what we want. We called our ISP to setup a reverse pointer in their DNS to our exchange server as well. Does anyone have any insight? If so please respond Thank You! Sincerely, Jake Fry

If its a DNS query timeout and network solutions is hosting your DNS, i'd call them and raise hell.

Exchange also uses TCP when quering DNS, make sure that not only UDP but also TCP to port 53 is open in your firewall
