Create separate partition with 64kb cluster size just for log files?
I have a Dell r710 with 6x600GB SAS drives. I was planning on creating a RAID 1 for the OS/Logs and then a RAID 10 for the DB. I know it's recommended to have the DB and logs on different volumes, but it's also recommended to have the logs (and DB) on a 64KB sized NTFS partition. Given the default cluster size for the OS installation will be 4KB I was wondering if I should create another partition (@64KB cluster size) on the RAID 1 volume simply for the logs?? Oh, plus the RAID stripe size will be 256KB for both volumes, as that's the recommendation as well. To put this in perspective, I should also mention this is only for 150 or so users, but several mailboxes are >10GB... Thanks all, -g

Hi there, Yes, you may go ahead and create the another partition for the logs. Fiona Liao TechNet Community Support

If found this thread that seems to support creating a separate partition.. http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en/exchange2010/thread/7acff63a-d63b-4add-af09-d07d486378ae So I'll do that then! :D
