Create Offline Address Book before installing Exchange 2007
I'm attempting to install Exchange 2007 on a 2003 x64 domain member Server and I'm receiving the following error when running the readiness checks: "The nominated exchange server for offline address book 'Default Offline Address Book' has been deleted. Nominate a valid server and restart setup." The recommended action is to create a new offline address book, which sounds simple enough, but the first step is to "start the exchange management console". It doesn't look like the Management Console is available in the "All Programs" list. I did try to run "New-OfflineAddressBook" from the powershell, but the command was rejected as unknown.

Hi, Do you have another exchange sever installed on domain? Have you tried to install exchange 2007 before? If you currently do not have any exchange server on the domain, please try the following steps: 1. On domain controller, open adsiedit.msc 2. Expand to Configuration, CD=Service, CN=First Organization, CN=Address Lists Container. 3. Right click the "CN=Offline Address Lists" and choose delete. Then try to install exchange 2007 again. What's result? Please remember to click Mark as Answer on the post that helps you, and to click Unmark as Answer if a marked post does not actually answer your question. Gen, Now that I am past the readiness checks the Mailbox Role is failing to install with the following error: "The parent object for Default Offline Address Book could not be found. Please check that Offline Address Lists exists." There used to be an exchange 2007 server deployed in this domain which was taken down and unrecoverable. I've now been trying to re-install a new 2007 exchange on a new Domain Member server. Do you have any suggestions for this new problem? If you need more data please let me know. Thanks!

Hi, The problem is caused by the original exchange server is not complete removed from DC. So the new installation of exchange server considered that the old exchange server is still working and keeps trying to look for the offline address lists on the old exchange server. To resolve this problem, I recommend you to remove the whole exchange organization from DC, and then reinstall exchange 2007 server: 1. On domain controller, open adsiedit.msc 2. Expand to Configuration, CD=Service, right click 'CD=Microsoft Exchange Server' and click Delete. Then try to install new exchange server. It will create a new exchange organization automatically. After installing exchange server, you need to create new mailbox for all mail-enabled users such as Administrator: 1. Open EMC, expand to Recipient Configuration->Mailbox, right click Administrator and choose Disable. 2. Right click and click 'New-Mailbox', then follow the Introduction to create a new mailbox.
