Crashing Word & Excel

I have installed Office pro plus 2013 a few times and when I try  to open a file in word or Excel the program tells me it has encountered a problem and needs to close. I have installed and re-installed (after uninstalling) a number of times and restarted my computer a few times as well and it still won't work. I also uninstalled the office 2007 compatibility pack as well as the visual office files. I have a subscription to 365 Office and it experienced the same problem with Word and Excel. It has been uninstalled. Each time I return to the PowerPoint, Publisher and Access programs they will open a file or start a new document but Word and Excel will not.

What to I need to do to fix this?

Hi Fred Mc,

Based on your description, I suppose you didn't uninstall Office 2007 completely.

It's recommended to download and install Configuration Analyzer Tool (OffCAT), which is developed by Microsoft Support teams. Once the tool is installed, you can run it at any time to scan for hundreds of known issues in Office programs.

Then you can also try to collect event log:

Open Event Viewer to check whether there's any error about the Excel/Word crash issue.
Press Win + R, type "eventvwr" in the blank box, press Enter. In the Event Viewer, browse to Windows Logs -> Application, there may be some errors after the crash.
Please try to collect this event log and post the whole event log message here. I can get more information about your issue from this message and help you solve it.

After collecting event log message, please send it to our email address:
ibsofc@microsoft.com
Please Note: Please add the URL of the case in the email subject or body.

I'm glad to help and follow up your reply.
