Is the SMTP installed and service started on the SharePoint server? It is not installed by default.Jim McBee - Blog - http://mostlyexchange.blogspot.com

As Jim said, is the SMTP service installed on the sharepoint server? Also you will to open port 25 through the firewall to be able to smtp traffic to that host.Mark Morowczynski|MCT| MCSE 2003:Messaging, Security|MCITP:ES, SA,EA|MCTS:Windows Mobile Admin|Security+|http://almostdailytech.com

Adding to Jim's comment. The port number that you mention in the telnet command will try to access a service which is present on that server on that particular port.Since by default SMTP is not present, so there would be no response on port 25You can check with other ports like 80 or 443Also was wondering why would you like to telnet your Sharepoint server on port 25?
