Corrupt a Mailbox / mailbox database (exchange 2010)
Is there a way out to corrupt a mailbox or database itself for lab testing in exchange 20

Hi,

Based on my knowledge, most corruptions are caused by MAPI clients that fail to update properties to the satisfaction of MRS. But I haven't found a direct method to corrupt a mailbox for a test. Your understanding will be appreciated.

Hope this can be helpful to you.

Depends on the corruption you want, i.e.

  1. you could set the exchange services to not automatically start, then start injecting data and pull the power plug to leave the DB in a dirty state.
  2. If you have an iSCSI SAN for storage you could assign the IQDN to two different machines, i.e. one with the Exchange EDB on the same LUN and one with other data.  They take action to cause read/writes to that same volume and you are sure to corrupt it in a matter of time since they would both be trying to write to the same disk/Lun but be careful in how long you let is run else you may end up with a completely unusable EDB. If you watch the applications event log you will start seeing errors on the EDB
