SRV Record configured with below settings:
Domain : mydomain.com
Service : _autodiscover
Protocol : -tcp
port number : 443
host offering this server : autodiscover.mydomain.com

at ISP i have
mx record pointing to mail.mydomain.com

I am not sure i have a pointer record. Do i need a pointer record?

Hi ,

Based on my knowledge i have given some points please have a have a look in to it.

Do i need a pointer record ?

Basically PTR records are used by SMTP servers during at the time of receiving the EHLO or HELO command from the sending SMTP server and then the receiving SMTP server will try to resolve the ip address of the sending server to it respective name .so on such case if you don't have the PTR record for your mail server then the SMTP connection established from your server will be rejected by the SMTP server on the receiving end if the server at the receiving end does a reverse lookup.

Most of the gateway products does have the option to enable or disable the reverse DNS lookup for the inbound SMTP connections from the external world.

Yes , pointer record is must .Most of the SMTP servers on the receiving end will do an reverse dns lookup

What are the records to be created at ISP ?

1.Host A records for the services like pop, imap, owa, activesync, outlook anywhere.

2.Host A record for the autodiscover service.

3Then PTR and MX records for your mail server.

4.Finally you need to have the SPF record to avoid the spoofing of your own domain names.
