Copying the autosum formula from one cell to more cells.

I have an excel workbook that was sent to me by a fellow worker. It contains various sheets.

On of these sheets is a simple material list with numerous different materials listed horizontally along the top and a list of locations vertically down the left column.

Values are inserted for each location and material type. To know how much material of each material type to order, the autosum formula is used on the first column containing numbers. This executes correctly.

I then attempt to copy and paste the formula along the width of the sheet to obtain the totals for all the columns, but the total displayed for each column is the same even though the numbers entered in the body of the sheet are different and the totals should be different.

Clicking on the cells where the total should be displayed, show that the formula is actually correct for that column but the total displayed is the same as in the first column.

I have tried to copy the entire sheet to a new sheet in the same workbook but the result was the same.

I also tried to copy the sheet to a new workbook with no luck.

If I open a new workbook and just type random numbers across a few lines and columns, The formula works fine and I can copy and paste it across various columns with perfect results.

Can anyone tell me what went wrong with the original workbook.

By the way, I am using Windows 10 and Office 365

Hi Pedenkadee,

Based on your description, did you get the result as shown in the following figure? You used SUM formula for each column, but get the same result.

If my understanding is correct, please go to FORMULAS tab- Calculation- Calculation Option and select Automatic.

Hope it's helpful.
