Copy of Sent Mail sent to InBox

I rebuilt my SBS2011 server, which uses Exchange 2010 with Forefront 2010 and I'm using an Outlook 2013 (x64) mail client.

Now any email I send appears in the Sent folder as expected, but a copy also appears in the InBox.  I can't find any obvious settings that might cause this new post-rebuild pr

+ Make sure that Outlook and Exchange Server is fully patched
+ Check whether you can repro the issue by opening Outlook in safe mode (Outlook.exe /safe)
+ Check any custom add-in or Outlook VBA exists
+ Check any Outlook rule exists
+ Can you repro the issue using Outlook Web Access(OWA) too for the same account?
+ If issue exists, then try creating new Outlook profile and see whether it helps you to move ahead or not.

All of Deva's action items were performed prior to my original post.  I purged all Outlook rules for the client and the server.  I suspect the problem is with Forefront or Exchange.

I now come to see that the duplicate messages showing up in my InBox with the body as an attachment, both for mail I send and mail I receive, all state "Microsoft Outlook on behalf of ...".  I had purged all of my rules, and for now added one that sends all mail from "Microsoft Outlook" to a "Duplicates" folder.

Can anyone tell me how to correct the problem?  I know that rules are kept in the client as well as the server, but when I purged them, there was no indication of where they resided.  I double checked that the rules were purged by using Outlook Web Access.   Have I missed something?

Hi Michael,

How is the result for Deva's action items? Such as:

+ opening Outlook in safe mode

+ using Outlook Web Access(OWA)

+ new Outlook profile

As I responded to Deva's post, I had already performed those action items prior to posting my problem.  I also deleted the "Modern App" version of Microsoft mail just to verify that it was not posting a 2nd copy in background.

The rule dialog shows the 1st copy to be from the actual sender, but the 2nd copy is from "Microsoft Outlook" on behalf of me.  I created a new server-side rule that moves anything from "Microsoft Outlook" to a separate folder, which I purge after review every day.  In my mind, that is a workaround solution.  I still have no idea why the 2nd copy (with the body as an attachment) is created.

I now recognize that these are journal emails.  Journaling can be assigned to a mailbox or just turn off journaling from the management console or PowerShell.
