Copy notes into public folders
My next question is what would prevent me from copying Notes into a public folder? A little while ago I copied 3 notes into the the default Internet Newsgroups public folder and they appeared no problem. Then I rebooted the server. Now when I try to copy a note into this public folder I get the message "Could not complete the operation because the service provider does not support it." What in the world could be causing this?

1, Server 2003 with SP2. Exchange is 2003 with SP2. Server is right next to my PC is connect via 1gig switch/router and is connected to internet. Both clients are XP SP2; one with Outlook 2007 and the other with Outlook 2003. 2. By Notes I mean the yellow things you can create under notes in my Outlook 2007 client. Troubleshooting 1. Nothing can be created in this folder despite fact that a few days ago I posted 4 Notes from the Notes window in my Outlook 2007 client. Just tried to create new post in this folder and recieved the "Could not complete the operation because the service provider does not support it" message. 2. Launched in outlook /safe. no change; still get error message. Also, I have another folder in same public folder store and this onecan havenew posts added to it all day long and it works fine. I have had the permissions windows ( both Client Permissions and Administrative rights )open side by side and both folders have the exact same permissions. 3. Looked in event log and do not see any errors with exchange. 4. Went to pc with Outlook 2003 installed. Same problem only his error message is "Can not complete operation". Also, like my outlook 2007 client, he can add posts to the Study Notes folder with no problem. 5. Yes, both PCs in this case can successfully post notes or new posts to the Study Notes Public Folder through outlook. 6. DACL state is good for both Internet News Groups and Study Notes public folders. What else? : ) PS. For further digestion, I made a new folder under Internet News Groups called Further Mucking About and everyone can add new posts or copy over any of the existing notes to it.

Ok, so far, theres one thing we have confirmed, the issue is isolated to one public folder Check info: 1. Do you use Newsfeed feature, enable NNTP service? 2. How many replicas does Newsgroup folder have? 3. Do the replicas of Study and Newsgroup folders belong to same store? 4. How about create/modify/delete items on the Newsgroup folder directly via OWA? Troubleshooting: Verify the permission on the Newsgroup a. ESM->Administrative Groups-> AdministrativeGroupsName->Folders->Public Folders->Internet Newsgroup b. Right-click the folder, select Properties, Permissions tab c. Client permission (By default): Default: Create Items, Read Items, Folder Visible, Edit Items: Own, Delete Items: None Anonymous: Same as Default account d. Administrative permission (By default): Check if Anonymous and Everyone exist and have Special Permissions on them

1. Do not use Newsfeed feature. NNTP is enable and started. 2. There are no replicas. There is only this one Exchange 2003 server. 3. No replicas, but yes, these 2 folders are part of the same store. 4. I can get into the folder via OWA, but no, I cannot create new items in Internet New Groups. Also, I can create new items in Further Mucking About via OWA. Further Mucking About is a folder under Internet New Groups that I made some time back. Also, while in OWA I can create new items in Study Notes, a folder along side Internet News Groups. a.- d. I checked theseout and see that they are set as you indicated. Anyonymous and Everyone have no permissions but "Special Permissions". *FYI, when I log into both my Outlook 2007 and OWA I am logging in with an account that is local Admin, Enterprise Admin, Schema Admin, Domain Admin, and Domain User and Debugging User.

Workaround: If you have latest backup of public store, please try to export all current public folder data to PST, and then restore the store from backup, see if Internet Newsgroup folder backs to normal, if yes, import data back
