Connecting to proxy server officeimg.vo.msecnd.net
I keep getting this windows security message above and cannot move forward.  I type in my DNS name and password and it rejects it, I cannot move foward, I can't even open "FILE."  Help please.  What to do?

Hi,

The issue might be related the proxy server. I have seen two methods which might help on this:

Method 1

Disable "Allow Office to connect to the internet" option

File>Options>Trust Centre>Privacy Options> "Allow Office to connect to the Internet"

Method 2

Add the following sites as the exceptions of proxy server in IE

officeimg.vo.msecnd.net

office.microsoft.com

odc.officeapps.live.com

Yet again work arounds have to be put into place to deal with shoddy Microsoft software.

How about Microsoft actually fixing the issue as opposed to the user base paying top money for this type of beta level software and then having to effect a workaround.

Must admit that I am FURIOUS about this issue. It's an embarrassment to my department and the business suffers from downtime too. The very idea that I have to add exceptions to a GPO for proxy configuration just to get round an issue with a "WORD PROCESSOR" is ridiculous.

Users don't want their apps going off downloading content in the background all the time - if they did, they'd buy a mac. Why the heck the app can't communicate through a proxy is also daft. I suppose in the lovely world of Microsoft, users have an un-metered, un-monitored gigabit pipe EACH don't they?

M$ - you FAILED with this product, again.

So how to add the sites as the exceptions of proxy server in IE?

This isn't caused by Office. The proxy server is configured to return the 407 (proxy authentication required) for the sites the administrator has not allowed which triggers the prompt for credentials in Windows. The proxy server should be configured to return a 404 and you will no longer get any prompts from Windows. Office will fail silently, you will see indicators on the features that were not able to access the sites.

isn't caused by office? of course it is! Even if i disallow Office to use online content this dialogboxes appear.
So why does Office still want to connect to MS Servers if i disabled all online features ?!?

Best is that this Dialogbox appears after installing a patch that was supposed to: "

  •   Disables the unnecessary dialog box that saves your user name and password when you sign in an Office 365 account that uses modern authentication."

Well, it does just the opposite on a Office 2013 install, now i get the dialogbox for login in to MS account...

For now uninstalling MS patches KB3054853 and KB3054925 do the job for me.

Still Office 2013 tries to go online silently even with disabled online content it just doesnt show the dialogbox...
Since we have open licence i am really thinking about reverting to 2010!
