Connecting Outlook 2003 and a DAG
When connecting Outlook 2003 to Exchange 2010 you require a Public Folder database. When setting up a DAG the PF DB is not able to be added. What happens when the server hosting the PF DB goes down? Will 2003 clients lose connectivity because there is no PF DB available? If so, does that make a DAG group useless for 2003 clients? Or will the clients still be able to access their mailbox without the PF DB? If so, why is a PF DB required at all? Thanks

In Exchange 2010, Outlook client connect to the CAS server (or CAS array) and not the mailbox servers. So if a DAG fails over, Outlook will be alright, unless the CAS server fails or you do not have a CAS array configured. As for PF's...they are only required for free/busy information and offline address book download in Outlook 2003. They are not required to connect to your mailbox. http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee332317.aspx Tim Harrington - Catapult Systems - http://HowDoUC.blogspot.com
