Configuring Outlook to automatically use Exchange Server and the User's Active Directory login
I'm new to exchange server, but I've seen in a corporate environment that outlook can be configured such that the first time as User logs in on a Windows Box, that outlook automatically knows that it has to use an Exchange server and that it takes the user's login and password to active directory automatically. Can someone tell me how this is done?I believe it uses Group policies in Active Directory to push outlook down to the workstation, but I still don't know how to configure outlook on the server to usea specifiedexchange server and the user's login and password without having to configure outlook on each workstation.

Hi, The Autodiscovery service in Exchange Server 2007 usesusers' e-mail address or a domain user account to automatically configure a users Outlook 2007 profile. The Autodiscovery service provides the following information to the Outlook client: Users Display name Separate connection settings for internal and external connectivity The location ofusers Exchange Server 2007 with the Mailbox server role installed The Uniform Resource Locator (URL) for several Outlook 2007 features (Outlook availability services) such as Outlook Free/busy or Offline address book (OAB) information Configuration for Outlook Anywherehttp://www.msexchange.org/articles_tutorials/exchange-server-2007/management-administration/configuring-outlook-2007-exchange-server-2007.html http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb232838.aspx Each workstation is jion with domain it automatically find the exchange server ,let suppose if you are login with domain and during login you have provide your domain\userid and password ,so during outlook config it automatically find the exchange server .RegardsSyed Arsalan. .syed.arsalan

Hi Fredleg,Iam assume you are working with Exchange 2007.AutoDiscover services is enabled by default in exchange 2007.When Outlook 2007 client going to configure Outlook profile first time Outlook client will get all information from CAS server if that clientjoin with Domain. Also any feature changes outlook will update immediately using CAS server. How AutoDiscover Works==================When install CAS server, CAS server creates AutoDiscover virtual directory on IIS. This virtual directory support to Outlook 2007 and Mobile devices on below circumstances;1) When a new user account is configured2) When Account changes and user checks for the Exchange web URL3) When network changes in Exchange Environmentadditionally CAS creates AD object named "service connection point (SCP)".SCP object contains the authoritive list of available Autodiscover services URLS where exchange 2007 installed forest. How AutoDiscover process works-Internal==================================Query SCP object frm AD (1)Outlook 2007 client------------------------------------------------>AD server | Autodiscover Services URL returened (2) | Outlook 2007 client<-----------------------------------------------CAS server | Mailbox Server Connect using HTTPS (3) |Outlook2007 client ----------------------------------------------->CAS server | Autodiscover returns address of | avliable services (4)Outlook 2007 client<--------------------------------------------------CAS server |External access============= Outlook clients from internet connects to autodiscover services using SMTP domain address of thire email address.I will bw either https://<smtp-address-domain>/autodiscover/autodiscover.xml or https://autodiscover.<smtp-address-domain>/autodiscover/autodiscover.xml.When the client connects to the Active Directory directory service, the client looks for the SCP object that was created during Setup. In deployments that include multiple Client Access servers, an Autodiscover SCP object is created for each Client Access server. The SCP object contains the ServiceBindingInfo attribute that has the fully qualified domain name (FQDN) of the Client Access server in the form of https://CAS01/autodiscover/autodiscover.xml, where CAS01 is the FQDN for the Client Access server. By using the user credentials, the Outlook 2007 client authenticates to Active Directory and searches for the Autodiscover SCP objects. After the client obtains and enumerates the instances of the Autodiscover service, the client connects to the first Client Access server in the enumerated list and obtains the profile information in the form of XML data that is required to connect to the user's mailbox and available Microsoft Exchange features.
